Introduction to the Main Functions of Shells
The ratio of load to deformation of shrapnel is called shrapnel stiffness. The bigger the stiffness is, the harder the shrapnel is. According to the mechanical properties, shrapnel can be divided into tension shrapnel, compression shrapnel, torsion shrapnel and bending shrapnel. According to the shape, shrapnel can be divided into disc shrapnel, annular shrapnel, plate shrapnel, spiral shrapnel, truncated cone scroll shrapnel and twisted rod shrapnel shrapnel. Common cylindrical spring sheets are widely used because of their simple manufacture, various types of spring sheets can be made according to the loading conditions and simple structure.
Generally speaking, shrapnel manufacturing materials should have high elastic limit, fatigue limit, impact toughness and good heat treatment performance. Commonly used are carbon shrapnel steel, alloy shrapnel steel, stainless shrapnel steel, copper alloy, nickel alloy and rubber. The manufacturing methods of shrapnel include cold-coil method and hot-coil method. The diameter of shrapnel filament is less than 8 mm by cold coiling and larger than 8 mm by hot coiling. Some shrapnels need to be treated by high pressure or shot peening after they are manufactured, which can improve the bearing capacity of shrapnel. The shrapnel is a kind of elastic element widely used in the mechanical and electronic industries. When loaded, the shrapnel can produce large elastic deformation, which transforms mechanical work or kinetic energy into deformation energy. After unloading, the deformation of the shrapnel disappears and returns to its original state, and the deformation energy is transformed into mechanical work or kinetic energy.

The disc spring was invented by Belleville, France. It is a washer spring with a truncated conical section made of metal sheet or forged blank. After the emergence of modern industry, in addition to disc springs, new springs such as air springs, rubber springs, scroll springs, die springs, stainless steel springs, air springs and memory alloy springs have emerged.

Production process
Generally spring steel can be produced by electric furnace, open hearth furnace or oxygen converter, and high quality spring steel with good quality or special properties can be produced by electroslag furnace or vacuum furnace. The prescribed content range of carbon, manganese, silicon and other major elements in spring steel is relatively narrow. Chemical composition must be strictly controlled in smelting. When the silicon content is high, it is easy to form bubbles and other defects, and white spots are easily produced when the ingot is not cooled after forging and rolling. Therefore, raw materials for smelting must be dried to remove gases and inclusions as far as possible, and to avoid overheating of molten steel. Special attention should be paid to decarburization and surface quality of spring steel in rolling process. The fatigue limit of steel will be significantly reduced when the surface of steel is seriously decarburized. For high silicon spring steel such as 70Si3MnA, graphitization should be avoided. Therefore, the stop rolling temperature should not be too low (> 850 C) during hot working, and the residence time should not be too long in the temperature range (650 - 800 C) where graphitization is easy to form. The residual compressive stress on the spring surface can be produced by shot peening after the spring is made to offset part of the working stress on the surface and restrain the formation of surface cracks, which can significantly improve the fatigue limit of the spring.
